Make certain that your hands and the patient's lids are dry before trying to put the lens on the patientΓÇÖs eye.
The lids are controlled by placing the tip of the fingers at the lid margins over the lashes and gently but firmly against the orbital bones. If done properly the patient should not be able to close their eye even if they forcibly try to do so. When first learning to put lenses on it is good practice to see if you can obtain the proper grip by just holding the lids without the lens and seeing if the patient can close their eye.
